About Me...
Hello,
My name is Kayla Mercier. I am a Florida-raised Latina, who grew up with a love for the written word, questioning just about everything that goes on in our world. So with that being said, I decided to pursue a degree in political science at Florida State University. I was raised in a family filled with loud, Spanglish speaking opinions. This is being that my grandparents, parents, and I immigrated to the United States from the Dominican Republic and Cuba. My family has overcome many variables to stay in this great country and their sacrifices have allowed me to create the tenacity I have for my work today.
Their drive and dedication was something that was instilled in me as a young girl. Constantly, pushing me to read more and elevating my knowledge through books, even when I didn't want to. This eventually caused a love for what words were flowing off those pages. It was astonishing to know how our world can be changed with just a few simple words.
After I graduate, I hope to pursue a career in the field of journalism and news writing. I want to inform people with questionable minds, such as I, the truth about politics and government policies, regardless of what side they stand on. I hope that throughout this site, you are able to gain a better understanding of who I am as a person and my goals for the future.

Design Rational
My design in this e-portfolio has always been about simplicity and structure. I struggle to see things myself as I do not see well. So, that is my basis for keeping everything clean light and easy to read. I use of the colors I choose, such as the seafoam blue, white, and light grey are more so because they are simply my favorite colors to put together and I feel that they blend well together in different aspects of a page. I explain my reason for creating this page in the previous “About me”. I was love that I was able to expand on it and put more information on this page to expand my knowledge of writing and editing in a more electronic sense. I was able to really keep a clean profile by making sure all my content is clearly organized and in its place. I used the app-gidget for PDF viewing rather than a JPG picture in my works because it creates a clearer and more reader-friendly view of the work. Everything in my works, down to the font size and location is based on how clearly it can be read and does that then allow for my work to be critiqued in a better light by doing so. This page also displays how I can create even with multiple genres at work here. I have edited photos, created flyers, and research papers that are all able to be located in one easy location due to this page.
